I have been Mr. Hertzog's supervisor at the Patent and Trademark Office for about 18 months and have known him for about three years. I have found Mr. Hertzog to have a good knowledge of chemistry. Being that he works in a chemical discipline in the Office, he is required to use and
examiners having questions about chemistry. In discussions with him I have always found him to be able to effectively communicate his thoughts and ideas, whether about chemistry or other matters
relating to the prosecution of patent applications.
Within the working group Mr. Hertzog is an effective member and works well with all members of the group. He has also always been helpful to those outside the group having inquiries within the specialized area that he works in. Mr. Hertzog is courteous with attorneys visiting him as well as helpful in assisting them to develop and refine the patentable subject matter in a patent application. Mr. Hertzog also writes well when communicating with the public and others within the Office. I have found Mr. Hertzog to be worthy of my trust in examining patent applications and have found that he will follow through on an agreed course of action after we have decided on one, or if changes need be made in a course of action, they will be reported to me for consent. Mr. Hertzog has shown proper use of Office equipment and taken initiative to report and have repaired defective equipment when necessary.
Based on my observations and knowledge of Mr. Hertzog in the work environment, I can earnestly recommend him for whatever tutoring position may be available to him.
